Poland is the Denkmal national partner 2010
Denkmal, European Trade Fair for Conservation, Restoration and Old Building Renovation 18 - 20 November 2010
After Italy (2004), France (2006) and Hungary (2008), the Denkmal trade fair's new national partner is now confirmed. The Republic of Poland will be introducing itself at the European Trade Fair for Conservation, Restoration and Old Building Renovation from 18 to 20 November 2010 in Leipzig. "The Denkmal trade fair enables us to consolidate German-Polish cooperation and to present the achievements of Polish heritage conservation to an international public", says the Polish heritage conservation curator-general, Tomasz Merta.
In 2010, German-Polish cooperation in the field of heritage conservation celebrates its 40th anniversary. Reason enough for the Republic of Poland to appear as the national guest at denkmal, given that "denkmal is an outstanding platform for the international exchange of experience in heritage conservation", according to Merta. "It is a successful symbiosis of exhibition, special shows and specialist programme - there is nothing else like it in Europe."
Focus on bricks in architecture
"Bricks, tiles and clinker bricks in the architecture of the centuries" is the title of the special focus at the next Denkmal. "For brickworks and skilled craftsmen, this is an exciting European subject group", explains Denkmal's project director Ulrike Lange. "The preservation of cultural patrimony does not end at our national frontiers. That is why we have chosen a topic of particular concern to the North and Baltic Sea regions, necessitating an international exchange of experience."
The fair will give the topic a great deal of scope and space, says the project director. Specialist manufacturers will display clinker bricks, bricks, tiles and moulded bricks in a special separate section, where hammering, breaking and chiselling will also be heard, with skilled craftsmen demonstrating how to work with these materials.
In 2010, UNESCO is again acting as patron for Denkmal. Simultaneously, Leipzig is also the venue for the parallel Lehmbau - Clay Buildings Trade Fair, and for the first time, MUTEC, International Trade Fair for Museum & Exhbition Technology.
