Description

Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve, created in 1947, is located in Ugam-Chatkal National Park, which is in the east of Tashkent and in the north of Angren. Total area is 35724 hectares; 6586 hectares are forests, 7047 hectares - meadows, 81 hectares - reservoirs. The flora of Chatkal reserve counts 1186 species that is typical to this region. There are 6 precinctive for this reserve species which are grown here, 28 kinds of plants of reserve are inscribed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan. 44 kinds of mammals and over 230 kinds of birds, 16 reptiles and 2 amphibians, over 3 thousand kinds of invertebrates dwell here.

There are unique ancient rock carvings dated 1 - 2 millennia B.C. in this territory. Besides, there are monuments of culture of Bronze Age - products of Bronze, ancient copper outputs and remnants of ancient settlements were preserved.

The reserve includes plateau and middle mountain zones right up to mountain ridges, which fully provides long-term preservation of ecosystems of these zones and plant and animal communities. In the choosing territory under the reserve, were determined at least transformed zones, which preserved inviolate landscapes and cover.

Comparison with other similar properties

This reserve is the only secured territory in this region within the territory of Uzbekistan with strict regime, which provides preservation of the completely natural complex in natural state
