Following an excellent response to the Call for Project Proposals in November, 54 projects at 53 World Heritage sites in 33 countries have been selected to be part of “World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) 2014 – Action for Sustainability”.

World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) 2014 campaign will be contributing to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) and the Decade on Biodiversity (2011-2020). The WHV 2014 provides challenging opportunities to young people to go beyond borders, share cultures, and work together to preserve natural sites, restore archaeological finds, and raise awareness amongst local communities about their heritage. The activities will integrate hands-on skills training and workshops geared towards encouraging youth volunteers to acquire abilities and basic preventive, preservation and conservation skills. In addition working sessions will be held on issues related to World Heritage, including activities carried out together with local communities.

Since the launching of the World Heritage Volunteers projects, around 1837 volunteers have taken part in 126 youth camps in 29 countries at 61 World Heritage sites. Join us and get involved in World Heritage preservation and promotion!

In the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme, the World Heritage Volunteers Initiative is led by the World Heritage Centre (WHC) in collaboration with the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) and Open Houses in charge of the European coordination.
