QUITO, Ecuador
13-17 March 2000

Forty-seven participants from Heritage Institutes in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico participated in the Workshop organized by the UNESCO Quito Office. Participants included heritage specialists, ASPnet Co-ordinators, university professors, teachers and UNESCO field staff. Close co-operation with the Ecuadorian National Commission for UNESCO, the ASPnet National Co-ordinators and teachers from Associated Schools took place.

The main purpose of the Workshop was to examine the best way to introduce the Spanish version of the Kit in ASPnet secondary schools in the region. The Kit was very much welcomed by all participants in the Workshop who suggested that its use should be extended to other target populations: other school levels, families, teacher-training institutions, museums and people working at natural and cultural sites.

The Workshop provided elements for a regional strategy in favour of World Heritage Education in Latin America with emphasis on teacher training, increased co-operation between heritage specialists and educators and practical involvement of young people in World Heritage preservation.
