Description

The Tsagaan salaa and related Baga Oigor rock paintings consist of about 10,000 figures on the anti-sunrise side of mountain rocks covering an area of 15 square km. The Tsagaan salaa and Baga Oigor rock paintings date back to the Neolithic period (6000-3000 B.C) and the Brouze age (3000-1000 B.C).

The principal subject matter represented in the Tsagaan salaa and Baga Oigor rock paintings are livestock and game animals, singly and in herds often of more than 100. Hunting scenes are also featured prominently. These rock paintings are rich not only in their numbers, but also in meanings, expressiveness, subject and compositions. They are important monuments of the art of the transition from ancient huntersgatherers' society to livestock breeding and beginning of the classic nomadic economy in Mongolia.
