In the framework of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the UNESCO Office in Moscow, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO and Naysvizh National History and Culture Museum-Reserve are jointly organizing the International capacity-building workshop "World Heritage Properties: Cоnservation and Use for Sustainable Development" that will take place in the Nyasvizh National History and Culture Museum-Reserve, in Nyasvizh, Republic of Belarus 23-26 May 2012.

"The World Heritage Properties: Cоnservation and Use for Sustainable Development" International Capacity-Building Workshop will offer an opportunity for specialists with direct responsibilities for heritage conservation and management of the World Heritage properties in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries to study the ways of linking heritage conservation and sustainable development.

The programme of the workshop will include the discussion of the conservation theory and doctrine for clear differentiating restoration, reconstruction, renewal (and other related approaches such as musealisation, preservation etc.) in order to find the best ways to respond to needs in specific situations. Also the workshop is to explore and demonstrate how making such approaches may ensure appreciation and protection for the outstanding universal value, authenticity and integrity of the World Heritage properties.
