Biodiversity Liaison Group

The Centre cooperates closely with the biodiversity related Conventions, individually and also through the mechanism of the Biodiversity Liaison Group (BLG). The BLG is composed of the Heads of the Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Ramsar Convention, the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, and the World Heritage Convention. A primary function of the BLG is to ensure coordination among the biodiversity related Conventions, and a copy of the BLG joint statement to the Millennium Summit in September 2005 on the importance of biological diversity in the achievement of all the Millennium Development Goals is attached in annex I of document WHC-06/30.COM/6.

For effective coordination and prioritisation of natural heritage work with its various partners, the Centre has also prepared a "Natural Heritage Strategy" and this Strategy is presented as document WHC-6/30.COM/INF.6A.
