Call to produce additional innovative resource material on specific WH sites
The importance of preparing new multi-media educational material focused on specific World Heritage sites in respective countries was given emphasis by participants from twenty different countries at the International conference on World Heritage in Young Hands ‘A Dialogue among Civilizations' held in Aswan/Cairo, Egypt in 2002.
Based on a set of guidelines elaborated by the participants, the preparation of materials was pursued in 2003 and 2004. Then, last March 2005, 41 representatives from 12 countries presented the results of their work during the International Workshop on World Heritage Educational Multimedia Resource Material, Pont-du-Gard, France.
- Provide educators with innovative, user-friendly multi-media inter-disciplinary educational resource material on specific World Heritage sites that enhances the understanding of the history of humankind by focusing on the contributions of different cultures to our common universal civilization and make appropriate links between the past, the present and the future;
- Mobilize young people to appreciate our common universal civilization by learning more indepth information about other cultures reflected by selected World Heritage sites;
- Enable them to become more aware of the present-day threats facing World Heritage sites and possible solutions;
- Enhance their capacity to effectively use multimedia resource materials and develop life skills including critical thinking, problem solving, research and analysis, communication and language learning;
- Implicate them in intercultural learning and dialogue and develop their respect for differences and diversity;
- Involve young people in life-long learning in support of World Heritage protection and preservation.

- Texts, images, cartoon and videos dealing on cultures and sites
- Value of the WH site (including criteria used for inscription on WH List and copy of WH certificate, photos of WH plaques on site);
- Unique features of site
- Intangible/living/spiritual heritage (music, dance, art, architecture, food, clothing, philosophy, religion, crafts, sculpture, festivals, traditional games and sports, life styles and customs (such as marriage) etc.) surrounding site in the past/present;
- Present day threats facing the site and possible solutions
- Sources of information (bibliography, web sites)
Activities proposed by the resource materials
- interactive games
- virtual visits
- essay/poetry writing, art work on impressions of site and contributions to our universal civilization
- information gathering on specific aspects of site/country and analysis via Internet, museums, libraries, press, interviews
- Multiple-choice quiz and short essay
- Passport to WH sites with visas (for 70% and above correct answers and a valid essay)
