Activity 4 : Preparation of a sample conservation and management plan for a selected heritage site in Jordan

A model conservation and management plan for the cultural heritage site of Abila in Northern Jordan is being developed jointly by a working group of teachers and students from BTU and Yarmouk University. This model can serve as a reference for other sites in the region.

The initiative was followed by a course devoted to development of guidelines for sustainable management of the Mesopotamian Marshlands offered at BTU for BTU World Heritage students, as well as Yarmouk University exchange students, in winter semester 2005/2006. The main aim of the course was to teach the students about techniques for conducting scientific research at heritage sites that cannot be accessed and studied hands-on.
