Adopted on the occasion of the meeting of African experts on heritage managementheld in Johannesburg from 19th to 23rd August 2002, as a parallel event to the World Summit on Sustainable Development, under the auspices of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
The 26th session of the World Heritage Committee was taken as an occasion to brief all the States Parties from Europe and North America on the periodic report process.
Workshop participants gathered to assess the marine biodiversity of the tropical realm and identify opportunities to expand World Heritage coverage of areas of Outstanding Universal Value (OUV). The primary objectives of the workshop were to:
